Press Release

Cris Worley Fine Arts is excited to announce our first solo exhibition of geometric paintings by Timothy Harding. The show, entitled, Skin, will open with an artist’s reception on Saturday, April 2nd from 5 – 8 pm, and will run through May 7th, 2016.

Timothy Harding’s work explores the fluid relationship between the pictorial space and the three dimensional realm, between drawing, painting and sculpture. While his previous installation-based work is a direct response to the architecture in which it inhabits, the dimensional paintings are a more singular instance of how an object occupies space. Formal elements within the work reference various art and architectural movements: from the gesture of Abstract Expressionism to the austerity of Minimalist paintings, to the spatial considerations of architectural theory, specifically the work of Frank Gehry. What culminates in these curious forms is a duality of sentiment, a sarcastic laugh at the undoing of the pristine grid and a simultaneous nod to its persistence.

Born in Houston and raised in Irving, TX, Timothy Harding received a Master of Fine Arts degree from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, TX. Harding has exhibited his work regularly since 2007 in many solo and group exhibitions. From 2011-2015 he was a member of artist-run cooperative gallery, 500x, and a founding member of artist collective, Homecoming!. In 2011, he was included in the Texas Biennial, and in 2009, he was a recipient of a Kimbrough Fund Grant from the Dallas Museum of Art.
