Cris Worley Fine Arts is delighted to announce Joshua Hagler’s exhibition, titled Nihil II: Nor the Moon in its Water. The exhibition will open to the public on June 22, and run through August 17, 2024. This artist will give brief remarks at 5:45pm.

This exhibition is the second in an ongoing series that explores themes of memory, loss, and the elusive nature of meaning through Hagler's distinctive visual encounters and personal narratives. Nihil II: Nor the Moon in its Water is deeply informed by Hagler's travels through New Mexico and the poignant memories of his younger brother's passing. The exhibition features duplicated drawings and sculptures, each paired within the gallery space to create a dynamic interplay between the works.

This unique presentation invites viewers to experience the pieces as reflections or shadows of each other, echoing the fragility and impermanence of memory. "One could think of the installation as two exhibitions—one as the deteriorating memory, or a dampened echo of the other," Hagler explains. The artist emphasizes that the specific meaning of the work holds less significance than the experiential journey during its creation and the impact it has on the viewer. Joshua Hagler's approach blends introspective storytelling with a rich visual language that resonates on both personal and universal levels. Nihil II: Nor the Moon in its Water continues to build on his exploration of existential themes, offering a profound reflection on how memories shape our understanding of reality.

Joshua Hagler lived and worked in San Francisco and then Los Angeles for fifteen years before moving to Roswell, New Mexico in 2018 as a grant recipient of the year-long Roswell Artist in Residence Program.​ ​He and his wife, contemporary artist Maja Ruznic, now live and work in New Mexico with their daughter. Hagler was born at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho in 1979 and is a first-generation college graduate with a visual communications degree from the University of Arizona in Tucson.
